The theme of our 2009 Multifamily Office Study (our 6th annual) is bridging families and firms. With the recent tumultuous storms in the financial markets, families reached out for help; 53.5 percent of MFOs were offering services to SFOs, while assets of the same MFO firms surveyed last year shrank 9.2 percent – noteworthy when compared to the S&P nosedive of 37 percent in 2008. This was tempered by new client acquisition which climbed at a median 8.6 percent, aided in some cases by acquisitions. However, through this market turmoil, 97.4 percent clients stayed put! These and other surprising findings on the new competitive landscape are included in our 38 page report of the Study’s findings.
